VERRUTOP
What is Verrutop?
Verrutop is a relatively new product used for the treatment of warts and verrucas. It uses a Nitrizinc complex to mummify and dessicate the verruca cell tissue, helping trigger cell death.
Who is it suitable for?
Verrutop is best suited for either raised verruca/warts which occur on the top of the foot or toes, or smaller more superficial verruca. If someone has a large, long-standing verruca, other treatment options may be indicated.
What can I expect?
After a thorough assessment performed by a FHP and when Verrutop is indicated, then treatment may commence. Firstly, the overlying hard skin will be removed with a scalpel (this is usually painless, it may bleed sometimes which is normal). The Verrutop is applied with the applicator directly to the verruca/verrucas to be treated. The process is repeated a few times and then left to dry. The podiatrist may apply a dry dressing to be worn for a short period.
Does it hurt?
The application of the Verrutop treatment is usually completely painless. In some individuals a burning or stinging sensation may be experienced which subsides the same day.
How many treatments are required?
The manufacturer states that most individuals require 3-6 sessions of which each session is carried out every 1-2 weeks to eradicate the verruca. It is usually not advisable to have more than 6 treatments. If the verruca has not cleared after 6 treatments then the foot health practitioner will discuss the other options going forward.
